Llandrindod Wells Carnival

The first Saturday of July... an important day in Llandrindod Wells' community events calendar... Llandrindod Wells Town Carnival.

Saturday 1st July; the arrival of Llandrindod Carnival Day 2017. The welcome promise of sunshine and blue skies made sure a jam-packed day full of fun and entertainment was to be enjoyed by all townsfolk.

What happens on Carnival Day?

  • Float judging and procession around the streets of Llandrindod Wells
  • Meirion Owen & The Quack Pack - Duck Racing on Temple Gardens
  • Mid Wales Axe Racing Team on Temple Gardens
  • Local acts & group performances on the Bandstand
  • Local live musicians on the "music stage"
  • The Penmaenau Bar open all day on Temple Gardens
  • Food and games stalls on Temple Gardens
  • Bouncy castle on Temple Gardens
  • Lorry pull along Middleton Street
  • Donkey rides 
....and lots more

The community were out in force, lining the streets to watch the fantastic display of floats around the town. 
There were many float prizes up for grabs, including...
  • Best Adult & Child Float
  • Best Small Vehicle Float
  • Most Humorous Float
  • Child Fancy Dress (Under 6 / 6-12 / 12-16) 
  • NEW FOR 2017: Best Buggy (pram, wheelchair, mobility scooter) 
  • Best Adult Fancy Dress

So... who were the winners? 

The people tasked with the difficult job of judging all of the fantastic entries to these competitions were; Jon Williams (Town Mayor) and his wife Jo, Miss Powys (Shelleey Ann), Jane Griffiths Community Champion from Tesco and Gemma Staton owner of Happy Home Gift Company in Llandrindod Wells.

Best Child Float

1st - Wonkas Factory by Crossgates CP School 
2nd - The Force is with you (Star Wars) by Cefnllys CP School
3rd - Splash on the Beach by Ysgol Trefonnen

Highly Commended - Under the Sea by Llandrindod Rainbows and Brownies 

Best Adult Float

1st - Little Shop of Horrors by The Albert Hall Theatre Company
Best Visiting Queen - Rhayader Carnival

Best Overall - Rascals Reef by Little Rascals Nursery (won the Gordon Phillips Cup presented to the Carnival by Jon Williams Mayor to recognise Gordon Phillip's contribution)

A BIG WELL DONE to everyone that took part in the floats and fancy dress competitions. It was amazing to see the attention to detail and the phenomenal amount of time and effort put into everything truly shone through
